A domino set typically contains 28 tiles, but some sets (like those used for Mexican Train and Chicken Foot) include more. Different regions have their own favorite variations: England (Muggins), Scandinavia (Bergen), Mexico (Mexican Train), and Spain (Matador).
Basic Domino Gameplay:
The core of many domino games involves players taking turns placing tiles to create a continuous line, matching numbers on adjacent ends. Games can be blocking (first to play all tiles wins or the game ends in a block) or scoring (points awarded for specific tile combinations or emptying your hand).
-
Blocking Games: A basic two-player game uses a double-six set. Each player draws seven tiles, and the first player starts the line. The starting tile varies by game (e.g., highest double in Muggins, 0-0 in Bergen, next lower double in Mexican Train).
-
Scoring Games: Points are earned for various actions. In Muggins, players aim for open ends that add up to multiples of five. In Bergen, points are awarded for matching open ends. In Mexican Train, the double-zero tile is worth 50 points.
-
Draw Games: Players can draw additional tiles from the remaining stock. The score is calculated based on the remaining pips in the losing player's hand and the stock.
Mexican Train is now available! Play online for free (Draw, Block, and Muggins)!
