Following the successful launch of Quidditch Champions this week, Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced plans for a sequel to the critically acclaimed and best-selling Harry Potter-based action RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, which dominated the gaming charts in 2023.
Warner Bros. Discovery has exciting news for fans of the wizarding world: a sequel to the phenomenal action RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, is in the works. With over 24 million copies sold since its release last year, the game's success has paved the way for further magical adventures. During the Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels shared the company's strategic vision, stating, "Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here."
David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games, highlighted the game's replayability as a key factor in its success during an earlier interview with Variety. "Many players have gone back and played the game more than once," Haddad noted. He emphasized that the game's ability to let players immerse themselves in the Harry Potter universe in a personalized way was a major draw. "It brought Harry Potter to life in a new way for gamers where they could be themselves in this world, in this story," he explained, attributing this immersive experience to the game's widespread acclaim and its position as the best-selling game of the year. Haddad proudly stated, "That’s a position that typically is held by one of these incumbent’s sequel games and we’re so proud that we’ve been able to break into the top ranks."
Game8 was particularly struck by the stunning visuals of Hogwarts Legacy, describing it as the most impressive visual experience for Harry Potter fans. For a deeper dive into our thoughts on Hogwarts Legacy, be sure to check out our detailed review at the link below!
