Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Following a series of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025, Nintendo issued an uncommon statement clarifying that the circulating images are unofficial. This marks a rare instance of Nintendo publicly addressing product leaks. The statement, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply notes that Nintendo did not participate in CES 2025, thus rendering any Switch 2 imagery from the event non-official.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, sparking widespread online discussion of the images.
While Nintendo's statement confirms the images' unofficial status, it remains silent on the replica's accuracy. However, the Genki replica aligns with previous leaks and rumors, suggesting potential validity. The most notable difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an additional button, labeled "C," located below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function is currently unknown.
Genki's CEO, Eddie Tsai, offered additional insights, claiming the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will utilize magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and will function as mouse controls – claims supported by other sources.
Nintendo previously announced plans to reveal the Switch successor during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail release is not expected until at least the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
