The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards are set to launch on January 30th, but concerns about severe shortages are already circulating. Reports from retailers and manufacturers suggest limited initial availability of both cards.

With eager buyers already lining up outside stores, the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are expected to be incredibly popular, despite their hefty price tags of $1,999 and $999 respectively. Manufacturer MSI, citing the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year), attributes the initial scarcity to production constraints, anticipating stock levels to improve in February.

Several retailers have echoed these concerns, with some reporting receiving only a handful of RTX 5090 units. One U.S. retailer even predicted the RTX 5090 launch would be the worst in terms of availability.

In response to the growing anxiety, Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging the high demand and anticipating potential stock-outs. The company assures customers that they and their partners are working to increase retail shipments daily.

Despite Nvidia's statement, the fear of limited stock has already attracted scalpers. Several pre-sale listings on eBay are offering the RTX 5090 at exorbitant prices, with one listing showing an Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 priced at a staggering $5,750—a 187% markup.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges this week, the company's share price experienced a significant drop following the announcement of the Chinese AI model DeepSeek, raising concerns about the future of Nvidia's datacenter GPU sales.
