SoMoGa Inc. has released a remastered version of Vay for Android, iOS, and Steam. This classic 16-bit RPG, originally released in Japan in 1993 on the Sega CD, has received a significant graphical overhaul, a modernized user interface, and added controller support. Initially developed by Hertz and localized for the US by Working Designs, SoMoGa first brought Vay to iOS in 2008, and this new version breathes fresh life into the beloved title.
This revamped edition boasts over 100 enemy types, a dozen challenging bosses, and exploration across 90 diverse areas. A key addition is the adjustable difficulty setting, allowing players to tailor the experience to their skill level. Furthermore, an auto-save function eliminates frustration, and Bluetooth controller support enhances gameplay flexibility. Players can acquire new equipment, level up characters to unlock new spells, and utilize an AI system for autonomous character combat.
The narrative unfolds in a distant galaxy, scarred by a millennia-long interstellar war. A malfunctioning, planet-destroying machine crashes onto the technologically underdeveloped planet Vay, triggering devastation. The player embarks on a quest to rescue their abducted wife, a journey that intertwines personal tragedy with the fate of the world, beginning on their very wedding day.
Vay retains its JRPG roots, featuring experience point and gold acquisition through random encounters. The game includes approximately ten minutes of captivating animated cutscenes with both English and Japanese audio options, seamlessly blending nostalgic charm with modern enhancements. Vay's remastered version is available now on the Google Play Store for $5.99.
