While not officially confirmed as a Dragon Age title, the success of The Veilguard is undeniable. However, recent reports surrounding BioWare have cast a shadow over the celebrations.
Online speculation, fueled by sources described as "agenda fighters," points to the closure of BioWare Edmonton and the departure of The Veilguard's game director. Eurogamer journalists lend credence to at least part of this, confirming the departure of Corinne Boucher in the coming weeks. Boucher, an 18-year EA veteran, has primarily worked on The Sims franchise.
Importantly, Eurogamer clarifies that the rumored closure of BioWare Edmonton remains purely speculative.
Critical reception of The Veilguard is mixed. Some hail it as a triumphant return to form, declaring "old BioWare is back," while others acknowledge its merits as a solid RPG but lacking true greatness.
At the time of this writing, Metacritic shows no overwhelmingly negative reviews. Many reviewers praise the engaging and dynamic action RPG gameplay, particularly challenging at higher difficulty levels.
However, this praise isn't universal. VGC, for example, criticizes the gameplay as feeling dated, lacking innovation or originality.
