The upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign network test will impose a three-hour daily playtime restriction, FromSoftware has announced. This limited-access test, running from February 14th to 17th, will be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles. Applications are now open via the official FromSoftware website.
The news follows the phenomenal success of Elden Ring, FromSoftware's 2022 open-world masterpiece. The game's popularity continues to surge, fueled by anticipation for Nightreign, a spin-off title revealed at The Game Awards 2024. This announcement surprised many, especially given previous statements ruling out a sequel or further DLC after the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
Nightreign, while building upon Elden Ring's foundation, introduces a significant design shift. It prioritizes co-operative gameplay and incorporates roguelike elements, including randomized encounters. The three-hour daily limit for the network test is described as a crucial step in verifying online systems and conducting large-scale network load tests before the full game launch. While a release date remains unannounced, the network test suggests a full launch is imminent. PC players should note that the network test excludes their platform, though PC support is confirmed for the final release.
