HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will feature previously cut content from the video game The Last of Us Part II, according to showrunner Neil Druckmann. Druckmann, also head of Naughty Dog studio, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will revive "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the game's "Lost Levels," partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, including Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer diverse tones, ranging from the relatively calmer party scene and boar hunt to the intense horror of Ellie's escape through the Seattle sewers.

The inclusion of this cut content promises intense viewing. Druckmann hinted at the appearance of a previously unshown, "pretty prominent" character, echoing the Season 1 introduction of Frank. Season 2 introduces numerous new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. Catherine O'Hara's role, however, remains a mystery.
The first episode of Season 2 is slated for an April premiere. However, some mysteries may remain unsolved for longer, as HBO plans to adapt The Last of Us Part II across multiple seasons, unlike the single-season adaptation of the first game. Showrunner Craig Mazin stated that Part II's extensive narrative necessitates this approach. While Season 3 isn't confirmed, Season 2 is structured with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
