God of War TV Series: A Creative Reset

The Show is Not Cancelled

God of War TV Series' Creative Team Undergoes OverhaulRecent reports confirm that showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have left the God of War adaptation. Despite having already completed multiple scripts, Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative vision.

Key figures remaining on board include executive producer Cory Barlog (Santa Monica Studio’s Creative Director), along with Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions), Roy Lee (Vertigo), and Yumi Yang (Santa Monica Studio). Amazon and Sony will now search for a new showrunner, producers, and writers to redefine the series' direction. Importantly, the project remains uncancelled.

Future Plans Despite Setbacks

God of War TV Series' Creative Team Undergoes OverhaulThe partnership between Amazon and Sony for the God of War TV series was initially announced in 2022 on a PlayStation podcast, following the immense success of the 2018 God of War reboot. This project is part of Sony’s broader strategy to adapt its popular video game franchises into film and television. This initiative led to the formation of PlayStation Productions in 2019. A Netflix adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn was also announced as part of this initiative.

Several adaptations have already been released, including Naughty Dog’s Uncharted (2022) and the highly successful The Last of Us (2023), with a second season slated for 2025. Other projects include the Gran Turismo film (2023) and the Twisted Metal TV series (2024). Further projects in development include Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the Until Dawn film, set for release on April 25, 2025.
