Google just unveiled its 2024 best apps, games, and books. Some winners were predictable, others...not so much. Curious who took home the top honors? Read on for a complete rundown of the Google Play Awards 2024 winners.
Game of the Year: An Unexpected Champion
The coveted Game of the Year award went to AFK Journey, a fantasy RPG from Farlight and Lilith Games. Its expansive world, stunning visuals, and epic battles featuring a huge roster of characters secured the win. While the victory for an "Away From Keyboard" idle game might surprise some, Google cited the game's exploration and visuals as key factors.
Multi-Platform Mastery and Multiplayer Mayhem
Supercell's Clash of Clans claimed the Best Multi-Device Game award, a testament to its successful expansion beyond mobile to PCs and Chromebooks. Players can now build bases, train armies, and conquer opponents across multiple devices.
Supercell also scored a win in the Best Multiplayer Game category with Squad Busters. NetEase Games' Eggy Party took home the Best Pick Up & Play award for its easily accessible gameplay.
Storytelling, Indie Gems, and Ongoing Adventures
The Best Story award went to Solo Leveling: Arise, a surprising choice for some, though its popularity speaks for itself.
Brave at Night and Noodlecake's Yes, Your Grace, a popular PC RPG that recently launched on mobile, won Best Indie Game. Honkai: Star Rail's consistent updates and engaging content earned it the Best Ongoing Game award.
Family-friendly fun was found in Kids at Play's Tab Time World, winning Best for Families. Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance was the Play Pass winner, and Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures secured the Best Google Play Games on PC award.
