James Bond audition tapes from 2005 have surfaced online, showcasing Henry Cavill's take on the iconic 007 character before he ultimately lost the role to Daniel Craig. According to Games Radar, these tapes were uploaded to the Ron South YouTube channel, which is run by an enthusiastic filmmaker with 1,890 subscribers. The channel also featured auditions from other notable actors such as Sam Worthington, Rupert Friend, and Anthony Starr.
Among these, Henry Cavill's audition has garnered significant attention over the years. Many, including Casino Royale director Martin Campbell, have praised Cavill's performance, with Campbell describing it as "tremendous." Despite this, Cavill was not chosen for the role, as other decision-makers favored Daniel Craig.
Although Cavill didn't land the part of James Bond, he embraced a similar spy role in the film Argylle. In this movie, he starred alongside a talented cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine O'Hara. Unfortunately, Argylle did not fare well with critics, receiving a disappointing 4/10 rating from IGN.
Despite this setback, Henry Cavill continues to have a diverse and successful career. He has portrayed iconic characters such as Superman in the DC Universe, Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher, and has taken on numerous other roles, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
