League of Legends Reverses Course on Unpopular Changes Based on Player Feedback

League of Legends Hextech Chest Brought Back After Fan Feedback

Responding to significant player feedback, Riot Games has announced a series of reversals to recent League of Legends (LoL) updates. A developer update, published February 27, 2025, and accompanied by a YouTube video, outlines these changes. The developers acknowledged that previous updates missed the mark with the community.

The Return of Hextech Chests

A key reversal is the reinstatement of Hextech Chests. Riot admitted they underestimated the importance of chests to player satisfaction and the rewarding feeling they provided. Beginning with patch 25.05, players can earn up to 10 chests and keys per act – eight from the free pass and two through the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser Skin Delayed, Further Adjustments

The highly anticipated Exalted Mordekaiser skin, along with the entire Exalted skin line, has been delayed. Riot aims to refine the skin to better meet player expectations. This delay also affects the planned release cadence for Exalted skins throughout the year.

In response to player feedback regarding Mythic Essence acquisition, one non-Prestige skin will be replaced with 25 Mythic Essence in the pass. Additionally, the Blue Essence cost for all champions will be reduced by 50%, effective with patch 25.05.

The reduced Clash event frequency is also being reversed. A monthly schedule will resume, with an ARURF Clash event in March and a standard Summoner's Rift Clash in April.

Popular in-game shops, Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium, are making a comeback. Your Shop is scheduled for patch 25.06, and the Emporium for 25.07.

Riot emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement and player feedback, stating that these changes represent a significant step in refining the game experience. League of Legends remains free-to-play on PC. For the latest updates, visit our League of Legends page.
