Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

In a swift response to community feedback, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision on player rank resets, offering a sigh of relief to its dedicated player base. Dive into the details of this change and what's next for the game.

Marvel Rivals Backtracks On Their Player Rank Reset

Dev Talk 11 Updates on Seasonal Rank Adjustments

Marvel Rivals has backtracked on their initial plans for player rank resets following significant fan backlash. The official Marvel Rivals Twitter (X) account shared a new update regarding its seasonal rank adjustments, effectively reversing their previous announcement.

The controversy arose after the game's Dev Talk 10, which proposed a mid-season rank reset that would drop players down four divisions. This move was met with criticism from the community, who felt it was demotivating, especially for those striving to advance through the ranks. The proposed resets were set to occur every 45 days or halfway through each season.

In response, the latest Dev Talk 11 confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank resets. Players will now keep their scores and ranks as they were at the end of the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank resets will still occur, with players dropping down six divisions.

Human Torch, The Thing, And Other Updates Still On The Way

Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Despite the U-turn on mid-season rank resets, Marvel Rivals is moving forward with other exciting updates. The highly anticipated addition of new heroes, Human Torch and The Thing, is still on track, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes. NetEase Games had previously announced that the game would receive two new playable characters each season, which spans three months.

The reward system for players reaching Gold rank and above remains unchanged. Those achieving Gold rank or higher will continue to receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while players ranked Grandmaster and above will earn Crests of Honor. New rewards at the end of the season will include another free costume for those reaching Gold rank, and additional Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above players.

Although balance adjustments were mentioned to follow the mid-season update, specific details about these changes have yet to be released.

The rapid response from Marvel Rivals to the community's outcry after the announcement of the player rank reset in Dev Talk 10 was commendable. Within hours, the team addressed the concerns and released Dev Talk 11 to clarify their revised stance.

Marvel Rivals emphasized their commitment to listening to their fans, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission!
