Nexon has officially announced the closure of the global version of KartRider: Drift, a game that launched in January 2023 across mobile, console, and PC platforms. The game is set to shut down later this year, affecting all global platforms where it is available.
Fortunately, the answer is no. The Asian servers in Taiwan and South Korea will continue to operate. These servers are slated for an upcoming update, though Nexon has not yet disclosed the specifics of these changes. There's also no word yet on whether the global version might see a relaunch in the future. For those interested, KartRider: Drift is still available on the Google Play Store, so you can experience it before the global shutdown later this year.
Since its launch, KartRider: Drift aimed to provide a seamless gaming experience for players worldwide. However, the journey was fraught with challenges. Players expressed frustration over the game's heavy reliance on automation, which many felt reduced the racing experience to a repetitive grind. Additionally, technical issues, including poor optimization on some Android devices and numerous bugs, further hampered the game's reception. Despite efforts to improve, the game did not meet expectations, prompting Nexon to reconsider its approach.
As a result, Nexon is preparing to shut down the global version of KartRider: Drift and is shifting its focus back to the PC platform in Korea and Taiwan. The goal is to refine and possibly revive the game's original vision, aiming for a more successful outcome this time around.
