Nintendo has unveiled the Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a unique digital game set to launch alongside the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Rather than being included as a pack-in title, this game will be available for purchase separately through the Nintendo eShop on the console's launch day.
During the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the Switch 2 Welcome Tour was introduced as a "virtual exhibition" designed to familiarize players with the new hardware. According to Nintendo, the game offers an in-depth look at the system through tech demos, minigames, and interactive elements, allowing users to explore the console's features in a way they might not have otherwise.
Footage from the Direct showed a player's avatar navigating a gigantic virtual representation of the Switch 2, learning about its various aspects and engaging in minigames such as Speed Golf, Dodge the Spiked Balls, and a Maracas Physics Demo. This interactive experience serves as a sort of virtual museum dedicated to the new console.
Nintendo confirmed via stream and press release that the Switch 2 Welcome Tour will be available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop starting on the Switch 2's launch day. However, the decision to make this an optional paid game rather than a free inclusion with the console has sparked curiosity and some disappointment among fans. As of now, no specific pricing details have been announced.
In addition to the Switch 2 Welcome Tour, the console will launch with an exciting lineup of games including Mario Kart World, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Deltarune Chapters 1 through 4. With such a strong launch roster, the Switch 2 Welcome Tour will need to compete for consumers' attention and budget.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to hit the market on June 5, 2025, with a starting price of $449.99 USD, or $499.99 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World.
