During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo revealed that nearly its entire catalog from the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, certain standout titles will receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, complete with unique features. Games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree are among those getting special upgrades.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game boasts distinct enhancements. For instance, Super Mario Party: Jamboree will feature a new upgrade called "Jamboree TV", which introduces mouse controls, audio recognition, more expressive rumble, and gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory.
Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will see improvements in resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app, named Zelda Notes, will offer voice guidance to help players locate Shrines and Koroks, and allow sharing of creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land will include an exclusive story, Star-Crossed World, only available on the Nintendo Switch 2, along with enhanced graphics and framerates.
New titles such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will benefit from mouse control capabilities and support for 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will receive better resolution and framerates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. For owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for games like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo also highlighted several third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 with exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
The concept of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games was hinted at last week when a webpage mentioned these in a footnote related to the newly announced Virtual Game Card system, noting that such games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
