Overture DLC Not Linked to Lies of P's Final Cutscene, Director Confirms

Ever since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, fans have been buzzing with speculation about what new mysteries it might unveil. During the Game Developers Conference last week, IGN uncovered that one mystery fans hoped would be addressed—the enigmatic final cutscene of the base game—won't be explained in the DLC.

For those yet to complete Lies of P, here’s a spoiler-free summary: the game concludes with a cutscene that hints at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe. This scene has sparked significant speculation among fans about its implications and whether it would be clarified in the DLC. However, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi has clarified that this cutscene is not related to the DLC. Choi tantalizingly added, “Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future.”

Neowiz has already confirmed a sequel to Lies of P, leading many to believe that the mysterious cutscene might be connected to Lies of P 2. However, details about the sequel remain scarce, and Choi was tight-lipped about any sequel-related hints during our conversation.

“What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you.”

The scene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the "Dorothy scene." As detailed in our previous coverage, the final cutscene features Paracelcus on a phone call, mentioning his intent to “find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy.” The scene then reveals the iconic striped sock legs and ruby slippers of Dorothy from *The Wizard of Oz*, suggesting that future *Lies of P* narratives might intertwine with other public domain fairy tales. However, the exact nature of this connection remains a mystery, and it won't be explored in *Overture*.

While the Dorothy scene won't be part of *Overture*, Choi did provide some insights into what fans can expect from the DLC. He encouraged players to replay the base game, noting that it contains numerous hints about the upcoming expansion:

“When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience,” Choi said. “A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in the expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in the expansion.”

Choi also mentioned that some fans are already piecing together Neowiz’s plans, as he frequently reads online fan theories and finds that “some of them are quite close.”

Additionally, Choi shared that the DLC is expected to take between 15-20 hours to complete for experienced players. It will be accessible after reaching a “certain” chapter of the game and remain available until the end. As previously announced, Overture is a prequel, with the protagonist being transported back in time to Krat just before its fall. The DLC will introduce new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi kept the specifics under wraps to maintain the surprise for the release.
