Pocketpair, the developer behind the hit game Palworld, is gearing up for a significant update that will introduce crossplay functionality. Scheduled for release in late March 2025, this update aims to enhance the gaming experience by enabling multiplayer across all platforms. Additionally, players will benefit from a new world transfer feature for their Pals. While Pocketpair has kept details sparse, they did share a promotional image on X/Twitter showcasing Palworld characters in battle against a formidable Pal.

John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will accompany the March update, adding an element of anticipation for the community. This news is particularly exciting for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. As part of a comprehensive content roadmap for 2025, Pocketpair has promised not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and additional new content to keep the momentum going for this popular creature-catching survival game.

Palworld made a splash upon its launch on Steam for $30 and its simultaneous inclusion in Game Pass for Xbox and PC, setting new records for sales and concurrent players. The game's overwhelming success led Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, to acknowledge that the studio was not prepared for the massive profits generated. Seizing the opportunity, Pocketpair quickly moved to expand the Palworld universe, forming Palworld Entertainment with Sony to bring the game to PS5 and further develop the IP.

However, the game's success has not been without challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have initiated legal action against Pocketpair, alleging infringement on "multiple" patent rights and seeking both an injunction and damages. In response, Pocketpair has adjusted certain gameplay mechanics, such as how players summon Pals, and remains steadfast in their resolve to defend their position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
