Exciting news for console gamers! The long-awaited "skate." – a new installment in the popular Skate franchise – is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been testing the game since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for Xbox and PlayStation users to experience a new Skate game in over 15 years.
The last official Skate title, Skate 3, launched in 2010. Despite a dedicated fanbase, EA seemingly shelved the franchise for an extended period. However, persistent fan demand, fueled by the #Skate4 hashtag, eventually led to the creation of a dedicated development team and the announcement of "skate." Initially slated for early access in 2025, this console playtest signals positive progress.
Via the official "skate." Twitter account, Xbox and PlayStation players can now participate in the playtest via the "skate." Insider program (registration required). A recent video featuring the development team confirmed additional Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement.
Confirmed as a free-to-play, live-service game, details about "skate." remain somewhat limited. The game is set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, a work-in-progress inspired by San Vanelona, Port Carverton, and real-world locations. While a map leaked in 2023, significant changes are likely. Fans can register for the playtest or wait for the game's wider release.
Other Skate Games to Enjoy in the Interim
While "skate." is scheduled for early access in 2025, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games offer enjoyable gameplay until the official release of "skate."
