Get ready, web-heads! Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is swinging onto PC on January 30th, 2025. This highly anticipated release brings the critically acclaimed PlayStation 5 adventure to a new platform. Learn more about the PC release date and features below.
Nixxes, renowned for their PlayStation-to-PC ports (Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima), has implemented ray tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and extensive graphical customization options. While DualSense features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback won't be replicated, keyboard and mouse support and ultrawide display compatibility are key additions.
"Collaborating with Insomniac and Marvel Games to bring the Spider-Man experience to PC has been fantastic," stated Julian Huijbregts, Nixxes Community Manager. Mike Fitzgerald, Insomniac's Core Technology Director, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the commitment to a tailored PC experience.
The PC release includes all post-launch content from the PS5 version. Expect twelve new suits (including Symbiote Suit styles), New Game+, "Ultimate Levels," new time-of-day options, post-game achievements, and Photo Mode enhancements. The Digital Deluxe Edition will offer even more. However, no new story content will be added.
A controversial aspect of the PC release is the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, a trend seen in other recent PlayStation PC ports. This excludes players in regions without PSN access, raising concerns about accessibility. While Sony previously reversed a similar policy for Helldivers 2, the impact on player access remains a significant issue.
This requirement applies to other single-player titles like God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West, prompting questions about the necessity of linking Steam and PSN accounts for purely single-player experiences.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2's PC arrival marks a significant step in Sony's expansion beyond PlayStation consoles. While the PSN requirement needs addressing, the enhanced features and content make this a highly anticipated release for both new and returning players. Game8 awarded the PS5 version an 88, praising it as a superb sequel. January 2025 can't come soon enough!
