World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 brings a host of visual enhancements, particularly for Shamans. Abilities like Lightning Bolt, Crash Lightning, and several others are getting a fresh look. While many classes see new or updated visuals for their abilities in this patch, Shamans stand out with the most changes. However, the community is divided on the effectiveness of these visual updates, especially concerning the particle effects.
Currently available on the Public Test Realm, Patch 11.1, known as "Undermined," offers players a sneak peek at the upcoming content. This update not only introduces a new zone, instances, and various activities and rewards but also includes balance adjustments for all classes, with a notable rework for Hunters.
Among the visual updates, Shamans receive extensive attention. Lightning Bolt, Crash Lightning, and Fire Nova undergo complete visual overhauls, while Frost Shock gets new visual and sound effects when used with Ice Strike. Additionally, Ghost Wolf now scales with character models and is slightly more transparent, and the Glyph of Spirit Raptors now synergizes with the Flowing Spirits talent. For a comprehensive view of these changes, WoW content creator Doffen has produced two videos showcasing side-by-side comparisons of the updated visuals.

Despite the extensive updates, not all Shaman enthusiasts are fully on board with the visual changes in Patch 11.1. While the new visuals for Crash Lightning, Fire Nova, and other abilities are well-received, some fans argue that the Lightning Bolt animation could use further refinement. The channeling effect is appreciated, but the return to the classic projectile lightning ball, reminiscent of World of Warcraft Classic, has disappointed those who preferred the instantaneous bolt from Cataclysm.
Overall, the community largely supports the visual enhancements in Patch 11.1. There's hope that Blizzard might introduce new Glyphs in future updates, allowing players to toggle between the new and original VFX, similar to the options added for Shaman Ascendance forms in Patch 11.0.5.
Patch 11.1 also introduces new skills to the game. Shamans can look forward to Primordial Storm, Druids to Symbiotic Relationship, and Windwalker Monks to Slicing Winds—the first Empowered spell outside the Evoker class, Earthen racial abilities, or Plunderstorm. Players eager to experiment with these new abilities and the revamped visuals can anticipate the full release of Patch 11.1, expected around February 25.
