New World of Warcraft Video Explains Feast of Winter Veil Lore

World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

The annual Feast of Winter Veil in World of Warcraft mirrors our real-world Christmas celebrations, offering unique rewards and new collectibles each year. A recently released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the rich history of this beloved in-game event.

From its origins within the game's narrative to the infamous Metzen the Reindeer kidnappings, Winter Veil boasts a long and captivating history in Azeroth. This holiday, WoW's equivalent of Christmas, features special rewards and activities, consistently introducing new items for players to acquire through various means.

The new lore video, narrated by PlatinumWoW, explores the holiday's roots: the dwarven legend of Greatfather Winter, a Titan-forged giant leaving snowy trails; and the Tauren's traditions of spiritual reflection, renewal, and gratitude towards the Earthmother. The video also highlights the emergence of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise that has commercialized Winter Veil, echoing real-world Christmas traditions.

A History of Winter Veil Mischief

No exploration of Winter Veil lore is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has endured three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the modern game. The video concludes with a humorous nod to Metzen, with Metzen the Reindeer expressing thanks in Thrall's voice (a fitting tribute, as Thrall is voiced by Metzen).

This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. He's previously created lore videos on various aspects of the WoW universe, including Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, as well as content for current WoW events. Blizzard's recent collaborations with content creators, including Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, demonstrate a commitment to enriching the player experience.

Players can still partake in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5th, 2024. This year's event includes the ability for Hunters to tame the Dreaming Festive Reindeer, along with new holiday transmogs and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special Winter Veil gift – similar to last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy.
