To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic Yakuza / Like a Dragon series, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is engaging fans in a unique way: by letting them choose the next official merchandise. The options range from typical fan gear to bizarre items straight out of the franchise's wild history. With a staggering 100 different items to choose from, RGG Studio has promised to put the top two voted items on sale within the next two years. Fans can cast their votes on the official website, though the competition is currently listed only in Japanese.
Among the items up for vote are some that are more conventional, such as a 20th anniversary celebration hoodie and a Yakuza-themed pencil case. However, the list also includes some truly oddball choices that fans of the series will recognize. These include the cult outfit worn by Munan Suzuki, leader of The Order of Munan Chohept Onast in Yakuza 0, the oversized traffic cone used by Majima in Yakuza Kiwami, and the curiously named "Puffy Gold Pants."
Other notable items include the sake Majima enjoys in a shack in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Akiyama's gold watch, the fountain pen Kiryu uses to write to Dojima in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, the tambourine Kashiwagi shakes during karaoke in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Kiryu's wrestling mask from Yakuza 3, and Saejima's prisoner uniform from Yakuza 4, among many other quirky choices.
The Yakuza / Like a Dragon series will continue to celebrate its 20th anniversary with the release of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii on February 21, 2025. While RGG Studio made a significant impact with the 10th anniversary release of Yakuza 0, no similar projects have been announced for later in the year. However, given RGG Studio's track record of rapid development, fans shouldn't rule out the possibility of additional releases. Over the last five years, the studio has impressively launched nine games, including Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Judgment Remastered, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, and two Super Monkey Ball games, along with an enhanced remaster of Virtua Fighter 5.
