Dragon Quest 12 remains in active development, with series creator Yuji Horii reassuring fans that updates will be shared gradually. During a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii mentioned that the team at Square Enix is diligently working on the game. This marks the first update since May 2024, when Horii had previously addressed the passing of key contributors Akira Toriyama, the character designer, and Koichi Sugiyama, the composer. Additionally, Yu Miyake, the former lead producer of the series, had transitioned to head Square Enix's mobile game division.
Amidst concerns about the project's status due to restructuring at Square Enix and a dearth of recent news, Horii's recent comments provide reassurance that Dragon Quest 12 is still on track.
Announced during the series' 35th anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest 12 will be the first mainline installment since Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age, released in 2017. In other news, Square Enix reported that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has surpassed sales expectations, achieving 2 million copies sold.
