Ubisoft Revives Project Maverick: Development Resumes

A report from Insider Gaming reveals a complete reboot for the Alaskan extraction shooter initially codenamed Project Maverick and planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. Despite positive internal feedback, Ubisoft shifted resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7), ultimately reassigning the technical team and effectively ending the multiplayer component. Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a support studio, now leads development, while most of the original team transitioned to the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson (mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 plunges players into a desperate struggle against time. A mysterious cult kidnaps the protagonist's family, conducting horrific hallucinogen experiments on animals and children. Players must rescue their loved ones within a crucial 72 in-game hours (24 real-time hours), making time management a core gameplay mechanic.

A prominent in-game feature is a wristwatch timer, constantly emphasizing the ticking clock and adding intense pressure to strategic decision-making. Far Cry 7 promises a unique experience where every second and choice matters significantly.
