Gameplay Overview:
101 Okey is a multi-round game for four players. The goal is to minimize your points at the end of all rounds. The player with the lowest total score wins. Points are calculated based on the numbers on your remaining tiles (e.g., a red 3 = 3 points, a black 11 = 11 points). The game concludes when all tiles are drawn or a player completes their hand.
Game Start:
The dealer distributes 21 tiles to each player, with the player to the dealer's right receiving 22. One tile is left face-up to determine the joker (Okey tile). Gameplay proceeds counter-clockwise. The player with 22 tiles begins by discarding a tile without drawing. Each subsequent player draws a tile from the deck or takes the discarded tile. A player can "open" their hand (place arranged sets on the table) when their total point value reaches 101. If unable to open, they discard a tile. Players must discard a tile at the end of their turn, even after opening their hand.
Joker Tiles (Okey/Riziko):
The joker tile changes each game. Two tiles one number higher than the face-up tile act as jokers. These "fake jokers" are visually distinct. For example, if a blue 5 is face up, the two blue 6s are the jokers.
Opening Hands and Adding Tiles:
To open a hand, you need at least 101 points and must have at least three sets of matching numbers (e.g., black 5, red 5, blue 5) or sequential numbers of the same color (e.g., red 7, 8, 9). Each set requires a minimum of three tiles. You can open your hand and add to existing sets during a game. If you take a discarded tile, you must use it in a set. If it can’t be used, return it and draw a new tile from the deck (no penalty).
Doubles:
Alternatively, you can open your hand with at least five pairs of identical tiles. Opening with doubles prevents opening a standard set in that same game, but you can still add to other players' sets.
