December 15 is Going to Be a Sad Day for Forza Horizon 4 Fans

Forza Horizon 4's Digital Sunset: A Farewell to the Open Road

Forza Horizon 4, the critically acclaimed open-world racing game, will be removed from major digital stores on December 15, 2024. This means no new purchases of the game or its DLC will be possible after that date. While the game has enjoyed immense popularity since its 2018 release, boasting over 24 million players (as of November 2020), its time on digital storefronts is coming to an end.

This decision, confirmed on the official Forza website, comes down to expiring licenses for in-game content. The game's developer, Playground Games, previously stated they had no plans to delist the title, but licensing agreements for cars and music have unfortunately forced their hand. All DLC will be removed from sale on June 25th, leaving only the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions available for purchase until the December 15th delisting.

Forza Horizon 4's Delisting Timeline:

  • June 25, 2024: DLC sales cease on Microsoft Store, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass.
  • July 25 - August 22, 2024: Final in-game series (Series 77) runs.
  • August 22, 2024: The playlist screen becomes inaccessible, though daily/weekly challenges and Forzathon Live events will remain via the Forza Events screen.
  • December 15, 2024: Forza Horizon 4 is delisted from all digital storefronts.

Existing players can continue to enjoy the game, and Game Pass subscribers with active subscriptions who own DLC will receive a game token to maintain access. Those wishing to purchase the game before its delisting can take advantage of an 80% Steam discount (currently available) and an upcoming Xbox Store sale on August 14th.

While the delisting is unfortunate, it's a common occurrence in the racing game genre due to the limited lifespan of licensing agreements. This follows the precedent set by previous Forza Horizon titles, such as Forza Horizon 3.
