How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

One of the initial significant hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the battle against Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for victory.

Phase 1: A One-on-One Duel

This phase unfolds as a solo battle in a spacious wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, launching projectiles across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance:

  • Close Range: He summons four stones, demanding swift evasion.
  • Long Range: He unleashes twice as many stones in pairs, easily dodged by circling him.

Maintain a safe distance when he conjures numerous stones to avoid heavy damage. While primarily a ranged fighter, he also possesses close-combat moves: simple combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) attack that repels you. A white glow signals his AOE charge; retreat to avoid taking damage.

Later, he employs red-aura attacks (uncancellable), summoning a large rockfall and creating clones. The best counter is to maintain distance until the attack concludes. Prioritize a sword for optimal damage output compared to spears or gauntlets.

Resource Management is Crucial: You likely have limited healing opportunities (around four times depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are strategically placed near the arena entrance; utilize them during breaks in the fighting.

Phase 2: Aided Assault

Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army arrives to assist, providing respite and healing opportunities (grab those meat buns!). Zhang Jiao summons tornadoes; stay aware of the wind currents to avoid being thrown off balance while eliminating his troops.

Zhang Jiao will attempt a Grand Tactic, requiring you to defeat 300 soldiers within a short timeframe to prevent a devastating attack. He also unleashes lightning strikes; watch for the closing ring and evade when it flashes. Musou Mode (basic, not Rage) is highly effective for quickly eliminating large numbers of soldiers.

Successfully thwarting his Grand Tactic twice weakens him, returning him to Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, eliminating his remaining health should be straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.

Victory Achieved!

This comprehensive strategy should help you defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
