Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: A Balanced Look at Enabling and Disabling

Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, connecting players across different platforms. However, in Black Ops 6, the decision to enable or disable crossplay presents a trade-off. Let's explore the advantages and disadvantages.

The primary reason players opt out of crossplay is to level the playing field. Console players, particularly on Xbox and PlayStation, often prefer to avoid competing against PC players due to the inherent advantages of mouse and keyboard controls. The superior precision of mouse aiming offers a significant edge. Furthermore, PC players may have easier access to mods and cheats, impacting fairness despite anti-cheat measures like Ricochet. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces encounters with cheaters.

However, disabling crossplay significantly shrinks the player pool, leading to longer matchmaking times and potentially less stable connections between players. Finding matches can become considerably more challenging.

Disabling crossplay is relatively simple. Locate the "Crossplay" and "Crossplay Communications" toggles within the Account & Network settings. These settings are usually found at the top of the menu. Toggle the setting from "On" to "Off" using the X or A button (depending on your console). This can be done from within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Note that the image shows the setting added to Quick Settings for easier access.

Keep in mind that crossplay may be temporarily mandatory in certain game modes, such as Ranked Play. However, this restriction is expected to be lifted, offering players greater control over their matchmaking experience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is currently available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
