To enhance the gameplay experience and boost the popularity of characters like Storm and Black Widow, who were previously underrepresented, NetEase Games introduced significant balance adjustments to Marvel Rivals' heroes in January, coinciding with the launch of Season 1.
Post-update, Storm has seen remarkable enhancements, propelling her to the top of the popularity and effectiveness charts. According to Rivals Meta, Storm now boasts the highest win rate in the game, marking a significant leap from her earlier standings on the hero selection list. In competitive mode, her win percentage has soared to over 56%, and her pick rate has climbed to 16%. This is a stark contrast to her previous negligible pick rate of less than 1%, now surpassing heroes such as Adam Warlock, Jeff, Spider-Man, Hela, Hulk, Magic, Iron Man, and many others.
Despite these shifts, the most favored character duo of the season remains Cloak and Dagger, although their win rate has dipped below 49%. On the other end of the spectrum, Black Widow continues to be the least picked and least successful character in the game.
With hundreds of thousands of players engaging with Marvel Rivals, including its competitive mode, the game is witnessing substantial growth. Achieving the Grandmaster title is an elite accomplishment, attained by only 0.1% of players, despite the existence of the Celestial rank.
Reaching such heights is no small feat, yet one player has achieved something truly extraordinary. During the first season, this player reached Grandmaster status without taking any damage across 108 games, focusing solely on healing teammates while playing as Rocket Raccoon. They managed to restore over 2.9 million health points in those matches and recorded nearly 3,500 assists while avoiding any knockouts.
