HB Studios, the developer, has been refining its golf game for a decade, starting with The Golf Club. This experience is evident in 2K25's polish. While not the most visually stunning sports game, and lacking an extensive course roster (though it includes the PGA Championship, US Open, and The Open Championship), the gameplay is enjoyable. Minor issues, like occasional framerate hiccups on PC, didn't detract significantly from the overall experience.

The upgraded EvoSwing mechanic is a highlight. The right stick control scheme (pull down to wind up, push forward to strike) provides satisfying feedback. Difficulty levels cater to both casual and hardcore players, with options ranging from forgiving Perfect Swing to a more challenging, realistic experience where precise thumb movements are crucial. Lateral movement on the tee box adds strategic depth. Playing as Tiger Woods, the cover athlete, enhanced the initial experience.

The MyCareer mode incorporates engaging narrative elements, offering choices that impact stat boosts. A memorable moment involved a movie role alongside Christopher McDonald (though not as Shooter McGavin due to licensing). Earning VC unlocks gear that further affects stats, alongside skill upgrades through gameplay. Added Quests provide ongoing objectives.

The MyPlayer creator allows for reasonable character customization, enhanced by the addition of skill trees. Multiplayer options, including ranked matchmaking and cross-platform Societies, promise engaging social interaction, reminiscent of classic golf games like Links 2004. Asynchronous modes cater to players with differing time zones.

PGA Tour 2K25 excels without being exceptional in any single area. This makes it hard to generate overwhelming excitement, but it appears to be a solid choice for golf enthusiasts and those seeking a relaxing gaming experience. A playable demo is currently available.
