New images circulating online strongly suggest a reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers is imminent. While the current Switch continues to receive new releases into 2025, the successor's unveiling is expected soon, with Nintendo confirming an announcement before the end of their 2024 fiscal year. This impending announcement fuels speculation and leaks surrounding the Switch 2.
With a rumored March 2025 launch, numerous leaks have attempted to detail the Switch 2's specifications and features. Hardware rumors, fueled by third-party developers and insiders, claim to show accurate photos of the console. Details regarding Joy-Con retention and color schemes have also emerged. Recently leaked images, purportedly originating from a Chinese social media platform and shared on the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit by user SwordfishAgile3472, offer the clearest look yet at the Switch 2's Joy-Cons.
These images showcase the back and side of a left Joy-Con, confirming the rumored magnetic connection. Unlike the original Switch's rail system, these Joy-Cons appear to utilize magnetic fields for attachment, eliminating physical contact.
Decoding the Joy-Con Leak
The leaked images highlight a primarily black Joy-Con with blue accents, echoing the original Switch's color scheme, though the blue is more prominent on the magnetic connection area. A revised button layout is also visible, featuring noticeably larger "SL" and "SR" buttons, and a previously unconfirmed third button on the back. This additional button is speculated to be a release mechanism for the magnetic connection.
These Joy-Con images align with other leaked images and mockups of the Switch 2 console. However, official confirmation awaits Nintendo's formal announcement.
