Hyper Light Breaker offers players a vast array of options to tailor their gameplay experience, including a diverse selection of characters known as Breakers. Each Breaker brings a unique set of skills and playstyles to the fight against the formidable Abyss King.
Unlocking new characters in Hyper Light Breaker is straightforward yet not explicitly explained within the game itself. This guide aims to shed light on how to access these new Breakers and provide an overview of the characters available in the early access version of the game. As of the initial release, only two characters can be unlocked, but we'll keep this guide updated as more become available.
To unlock new characters, you'll need to collect Abyss Stones, which are dropped exclusively by the Crowns, the game's bosses. Before you can take on these bosses, you must first gather Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. You can locate Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the teleporter at the Cursed Outpost. Here, you can select the Breaker you wish to unlock and spend your Abyss Stones to make them playable. While there are nine characters in total, only two are currently unlockable. The method for unlocking the rest remains unknown, but we'll update this guide as more information becomes available.
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker comes equipped with a SyCom, a crucial item that defines their base stats and core perk, thereby shaping their playstyle. These SyComs are the primary reason for selecting one character over another. Below is an overview of each character and their unique playstyles.
Vermillion is the first character you'll encounter, starting with the Gunslinger SyCom, which provides a balanced set of stats geared towards ranged combat. A critical hit from his Rail shots guarantees the next shot will also crit, making him a formidable marksman.
For those who prefer close combat, Vermillion can switch to the Tank SyCom, which rewards perfect parries with increased armor. This SyCom offers better defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice for melee-focused gameplay.
Lapis starts with the Lightweaver SyCom, which boosts the damage of Rail shots after collecting a Battery. Unlike Vermillion, Lapis can switch to the Warrior SyCom, which enhances her core stats with each upgrade she receives.
Lapis is deadly with either SyCom, but the Warrior SyCom makes her particularly lethal over time. With enough upgrades, Lapis can surpass other Breakers in terms of raw stats, turning her into a true powerhouse on the battlefield.
Goro is tailored for ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up the charging of his Blade skills while shooting. The unlockable Sniper SyCom further increases his critical hit rate, emphasizing his role as a ranged specialist.
Goro can be categorized as a glass cannon due to his high damage output but lack of defensive capabilities. Mastering Goro's playstyle requires precision and boldness, but when played correctly, he can be an exceptionally effective fighter.
