Ubisoft Delays Assassin

The development of Assassin's Creed Shadows, set against the backdrop of feudal Japan, faced delays from Ubisoft as they awaited the necessary technological advancements to bring their vision to life. The concept of exploring Japan within the iconic series has been a long-standing desire for the developers, but the project remained on hold until both the technological capabilities and narrative elements met Ubisoft's rigorous quality standards.

In a recent interview, creative director Jonathan Dumont emphasized Ubisoft's decision to avoid rushing the project, focusing instead on achieving the perfect synergy between technology and storytelling to create an experience that honors the franchise's esteemed reputation.

This meticulous approach highlights the importance of Shadows for Ubisoft, especially in light of previous challenges with titles such as Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. With these hurdles in mind, Ubisoft is determined to avoid further missteps, resulting in multiple delays for Shadows. These delays were, in part, dedicated to enhancing the parkour mechanics and ensuring the game achieves the anticipated level of refinement.

Despite the eager anticipation from fans for an Assassin's Creed game set in Japan, the reception to Shadows has been varied. Concerns have arisen that the game might feel too reminiscent of earlier entries like Odyssey or Valhalla. Furthermore, the introduction of dual protagonists—Naoe and Yasuke—has raised questions about the impact of player choices on the storyline.

Ubisoft has reassured players that they will be able to experience the game fully with either character, achieving 100% completion as both Naoe and Yasuke. Nonetheless, there are lingering questions about the depth and variation in their individual story arcs. As the release date draws near, the developer is tasked with addressing these fan concerns while striving to deliver a novel and captivating addition to the cherished franchise.

Currently, Assassin's Creed Shadows stands as a critical project for Ubisoft, aimed at restoring trust in the series and showcasing the studio's dedication to innovation and excellence.
