Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and Potential DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently shed light on the PC version's development, addressing player interest in mods and the possibility of future downloadable content (DLC).
DLC: A Fan-Driven Decision?
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content was a strong desire, but finishing the series is their top priority. However, he left the door open: "If we receive strong player requests after launch, we will consider them." The future of DLC hinges on significant player demand.
A Word to Modders:
Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community. Although there's no official mod support, the team anticipates modding activity and requests that creators refrain from offensive or inappropriate content. The director expressed respect for the community's creativity, acknowledging the potential for enriching the game experience through modifications.
The potential for player-created content, ranging from enhanced textures to entirely new features, mirrors the impact of modding on other titles. However, the need to maintain a positive and respectful gaming environment necessitates the team's request for responsible modding practices.
PC Version Enhancements:
The PC version boasts graphical improvements, addressing previous concerns. Lighting rendering has been refined to reduce the "uncanny valley" effect, and higher-resolution 3D models and textures are included for more powerful systems. The porting process, however, presented its own challenges, particularly with the implementation of mini-games and their unique control schemes.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches on January 23, 2025, via Steam and the Epic Games Store. This highly anticipated release promises enhanced visuals and gameplay for PC players. The game's success on PS5 earlier this year has set a high bar, and the PC version aims to meet and exceed player expectations.
