Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare Receives a Major Rework
Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare (Freddy Krueger) is getting a significant overhaul in an upcoming patch, addressing long-standing concerns about his competitive viability. This rework focuses on enhancing his flexibility and aligning his gameplay with his iconic horror persona.
The core change introduces the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, granting The Nightmare a more dynamic and adaptable playstyle. Both powers have received substantial updates. Dream Snares now travel at 12 m/s, navigating walls and stairs, while Dream Pallets can be triggered to explode, inflicting damage and significantly impacting Survivors' sleep meters. Crucially, both powers' effects vary depending on whether a Survivor is asleep or awake, reflecting Freddy's dominance within the dream world.
Key Changes to The Nightmare's Abilities:
- Improved Teleportation: The Nightmare can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame) within the Dream World. Additionally, he can teleport near Survivors actively healing, leveraging Killer Instinct to pinpoint their location.
- Enhanced Dream Snares: These now move at 12 m/s, traversing walls and stairs (excluding ledges), with a 5-second cooldown. Their effect varies based on the Survivor's state (hindered for sleeping Survivors, increased sleep meter for awake Survivors).
- Explosive Dream Pallets: These can be detonated, creating a 3-meter radius explosion 1.5 seconds after activation. The impact differs depending on whether the hit Survivor is asleep (injured) or awake (increased sleep meter).
- Teleport Cooldown Reduction: The teleport cooldown has been reduced from 45 to 30 seconds, though cancellation is no longer possible.
- Alarm Clock Changes: Sleeping Survivors can use any alarm clock to wake up, but each clock enters a 45-second cooldown after use.
- Killer Instinct Enhancement: Healing Survivors in the Dream World are now consistently revealed by Killer Instinct (with a 3-second lingering effect after healing ceases).
Add-On Adjustments and Unchanged Perks:
Several of The Nightmare's Add-ons will be adjusted to encourage creative loadout strategies. However, his perks (Fire Up, Remember Me, and Blood Warden) remain unchanged, potentially to preserve the character's original design intent.
