Elden Ring Nightreign: No In-Game Messaging System
FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature an in-game messaging system, a staple of the Soulsborne series. This decision, according to game director Junya Ishizaki (in a January 3rd interview with IGN Japan), is a practical one. The anticipated shorter play sessions (approximately 40 minutes) in Nightreign's multiplayer-focused design wouldn't allow sufficient time for players to read and write messages.
The asynchronous messaging system, a key element of player interaction and engagement in previous titles, will be absent. While used for helpful hints, misleading pranks, or humorous observations, its integration won't fit Nightreign's faster-paced gameplay.
Preserving Asynchronous Elements
Despite the removal of the messaging system, FromSoftware intends to retain and enhance other asynchronous features. The bloodstain mechanic, for example, will return, offering players even more information about previous player deaths and the opportunity to loot fallen ghosts.
A More "Compressed" RPG Experience
The omission of the messaging system aligns with FromSoftware's vision for Nightreign: a more intense, multiplayer-centric experience. The game's three-day structure further supports this goal, aiming for a "compressed RPG" with diverse content and minimal downtime.
While the game's reveal trailer at TGA 2024 targeted a 2025 release, a precise launch date remains unannounced.
