A remake of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will have big changes to game mechanics

A recent report by MP1st reveals details about an unannounced remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, sourced from the portfolio of an anonymous former Virtuos Studios developer. This remake, reportedly built using Unreal Engine 5, promises significant changes to the original game.

The portfolio highlights a complete reimagining of Oblivion's core mechanics. Expect overhauls to stamina management, stealth mechanics, combat (including blocking and archery), damage feedback, and the user interface. The revamped blocking system, for instance, reportedly takes inspiration from Soulslike games, addressing criticisms of the original's underwhelming implementation. Damage calculations have been reworked to include more visually impactful hit reactions, and the stamina system is anticipated to be more intuitive. The UI and archery mechanics will also receive modernizations.

MP1st suggests that while initial plans may have involved a simple remaster (as hinted at in leaked Microsoft documents), the project has evolved into a full-scale remake.

While sources confirm the Oblivion remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, speculation points towards a potential release later this year.
